A Poem Inspired and Written About Craig

WINNER

BY

BRUCE JOSEPH SIEVERS
I met him only briefly
but still I felt I knew
This young man was very special
and so I listened to
All the kidding and laughing and joking
that hid the person inside.
He was more than what he displayed
and so again I tried
To see if I could see
what pushed him so very hard.

He had fulfilled so many dreams
and come so very far
But there was still a hunger,
a constant, burning drive,
Like a lion on the hunt
...it made him come alive.

There was an energy all around him
that came from deep inside
This was the key to Craig MacFarlane
...the word he used was pride.

Perseverance and respect,
individualism and desire.
These were the fuel that gave him the chance
...enthusiasm lit the fire.

Nature isn't alaways fair
She made this young boy blind
Yet in so doing, she made him better
...she forced him to use his mind.

It's not our faults that make us fail
or our talents that mean success.
It's what we do with what we've got
that separates one from the rest.

Somewhere along life's highway
some winds will have to blow.
Some will dwell in the mud and the slush
...A winner sees fresh fallen snow.

One man is angry if he doesn't have
what other men have got.
A winner develops just what he has
...A loser complains he has not.

And Craig MacFarlane has always been a winner
in the biggest event of them all...
This young man sees life as it is
and simply refuses to fall.

Craig sees all of his problems as raindrops
instead of storms.
He just smiles and smells the roses
...ignoring all the thorns
and so to himself he has proven
success is all in the mind.
Craig sees life as a marvelous challenge
I wonder ... which of us is blind?
